What is Web 2.0?

Web 2.0 is a tool that you can use in your classroom that allows multiple users to collaborate together to solve a problem. This is a great way to teach students content and how to work together. These sites are free and easy to use for both teachers and students.

Web 2.0 Application

Description

MyFakeWall.com
This is a tool your students can use to create their own fake wall that appears much like a facebook page. On this page your students will create fake friends that can be characters from a novel or even presidents. They will have these friends interact with each other such as we do on facebook. In doing so they will be learning characterization and internalizing the characters who they are learning about.
Wallwisher.com
An interactive board where you can post discussions, images and more. Students can use this tool to post answers, review for a test, or catch up on lesson they missed.
Prezi.com
A tool students may use to create original and unique presentations. This is much easier than powerpoint because it has simple instructions and does not require any memory space to be saved because it saves onto the prezi website. This allows students to work on it and present it from any computer that has internet access.
Penzu.com
This is an online diary or journal. It is a place where students can keep their ideas and practice writing down their thoughts. This diary is totally private so students can feel safe to write in it. Students can access it from any computer with internet access, there is even a phone application that they can download to their cell phones! This is a great way to get students to open up and express their thoughts and feeling by putting it on paper (it looks like real lined paper).
Voxopop.com
This is a place where you and your students can form talkgroups. A talkgroup is an online discussion. This is geared towards students who are English language learners because they can listen to others speaking English and join in by contributing their thoughts and ideas verbally. You can use this tool for discussions in any subject area. This tool can give your struggling learners a chance to feel more confident with their speaking skills and it is even more effective because they are learning and interacting with others.
Dfilm.com
Let your students' imagination run wild! With this web tool, students can quickly and easily create movies. This project could be very efficient at teaching students to write engaging plots in their stories. It also enforces students to have a setting, characters, and dialogue.
280slides.com
With 280slides, students can create presentations, similar to Microsoft Power Point, that they can access from any computer with internet accessibility. This is a great resource for students at Donna ISD because they cannot use their USB drives to save their work. Presentations look much more modern and entertaining.
Eyeplorer.com/show
With this web tool students can perform a search and will receive information as well as information to items that are related to their search. This allows the students to learn so much more than just the specific information they were looking for. It opens the door for students to explore even further on their topic and find more information.
Forvo.com
Here is another helpful tool for the English language learners in your classroom. Students can listen to others pronounce words in the English language (or Spanish for Spanish classrooms) and learn how to pronounce the words themselves. Students may even record their own pronunciations for others to listen to and help people all around the world to learn new languages.
ESLvideo.com
This is a neat tool for English language learners. Students can listen to videos such as music videos or other videos which are set to the students' English proficiency level (either beginning, low intermediate, intermediate, or high intermediate). As the video plays, students will answer questions regarding the words being used. At the end of the video students will be scored and send will send their score to their teacher using the teacher code and class id that you set up. This can be really helpful in getting students to pay attention to everyday language and understand how looks written as well.

This is a place where you can find online maps. Other people place markers on places they have visited on the map and describe their experiences. This would be a great way to have students research what other places are like, what people from other places like to do, or what they may one day want to do or go visit.
